A college algebra class.
A wedding invitation. A country that never let go.
In 2002, Chris was retaking college algebra when he befriended Sebastian, a student from Medellín. Years later, in 2013, Sebastian sent him a message that would change everything — an invitation to his wedding in Colombia.
Sebastian picked Chris up from the airport, handed him the keys to his apartment and his car, and left for his honeymoon the next morning. “Just leave the keys on the table and take a taxi to the airport,” he said. At that wedding, Chris met a woman. They danced all night. Colombia got under his skin — and he never stopped going back.
What Chris found wasn’t what the movies had promised. Organic food at prices that made no sense, fruit he’d never seen, birds everywhere, and people genuinely happy living beautifully on very little — a country unfairly misrepresented his entire life.
